Living through this pandemic hasn’t been easy. No one thought it would last this long—lockdown was supposed to take care of the virus swiftly. But more than a year later, COVID-19 is still disrupting families and putting a strain on household finances.
Through it all, OCCU has been there. Our financial assistance has helped families stay afloat and individuals begin their journey toward financial recovery. We’ve raised money for neighbors in crisis, worked with borrowers to prevent their loans from defaulting, and helped ensure our members get the bills paid.
If you’re still experiencing financial hardship due to the pandemic, you’re not alone. We want you to know that OCCU is still here to help.
We’ve all been through tough times before, and it’s important to remember that wherever you are on your financial journey, this is just a temporary moment in time. Whatever challenges you’re facing right now will pass. How do we know? Because we’re always working to support your financial wellness and keep you moving forward in life.
Whatever struggles you may be experiencing, rest assured that help is available. Here’s how we’re helping our members continue to weather the pandemic:
Flexible lending options
When you need some extra help covering the bills, OCCU can help you make ends meet with a variety of lending solutions to choose from. Historically low interest rates have made borrowing more affordable, which means you’ll have an easier time getting back on your feet.
The right lending option for you will depend on your financial situation.
Struggling with overdraft fees? If you’re coming up short on funds every month, a personal line of credit can serve as overdraft protection for your checking account. It works like a credit card, allowing you to withdraw funds as needed, but has the advantage of a lower interest rate.
Have a sudden large expense? If you need funds for a major purchase or expense, a personal loan can cover the cost and give you some breathing space in your budget. With interest rates lower than most other loans, it’s your best bet for handling larger expenses.
Getting lost in high-interest debt? If you’re having trouble juggling high-interest debt payments, transferring your balance to a lower-interest OCCU credit card can help you lower your monthly payment and get out of debt sooner.
Need fast help in an emergency? Your need is our priority. Current OCCU members can apply for Priority Cash®, a one-time disbursement loan based on your relationship with us—not your credit. It’s similar to a payday loan, but the interest rates are much lower and the terms are much more forgiving.
Having trouble making a loan payment? If you’re struggling to make all your monthly payments, our Skip-A-Pay program can give you a break. As long as you have an eligible loan with us, you can request a two-month hiatus from your payments—all penalty-free.
A financial partner you can count on
Financial challenges can be isolating, and the pandemic has only exacerbated the loneliness. But you don’t have to face these challenges on your own. Sometimes asking for help is the most financially responsible thing you can do.
When you’re at your most vulnerable, it’s important to seek help from someone you can trust. OCCU is the right choice because we measure our success not by short-term profits, but by our members’ long-term financial health. When you thrive, we thrive.
As we continue to take one step forward, know that OCCU is here as your supportive financial partner—no matter where you are financially. Reach out to our team at any time. We’re here to help find solutions and guide you to the financial path you’d like to be on.
