OCCU offers free shredding of personal documents at annual event

Eugene, Oregon –In its effort to fight identity fraud, OCCU is inviting community members to have their personal documents shredded for free at an event on May 4.

The credit union’s annual Shred Fest will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at OCCU’s corporate headquarters, located at 2880 Chad Drive in Eugene.

Community members can drop off up to four banker-size boxes of documents containing personal information, like bank statements and tax records.

Participants are asked to bring at least one canned food item to be donated to FOOD for Lane County, a local nonprofit fighting hunger in the area.

“As a financial institution, we value the safety and security of our members and our entire community; it’s one of our foremost concerns,” said Matt Wilson, OCCU’s senior vice president of Risk and Administration. “Shredding sensitive documents is an important step toward reducing fraud and preventing theft, and we hope you'll join us on May 4.”

OCCU members can also drop off up to two banker boxes of sensitive documents for shredding at any OCCU branch between April 18 and May 10. Interested members can find their closest branch on OCCU's locations directory.
